Asian Sailing Federation Announces Dates for the 17th Asian Sailing Championship

The 17th Asian Sailing Championship, will run out of Pantai Festival in Ancol, Jakarta, Indonesia, from the 28th November to the 4th of December 2017.

After a highly successful ASAF Asian Championship 2016 at Abu Dhabi, UAE that saw significant growth in entries across all fleets, as well increased Asian competitors, this year’s event is expected to see more than 200 sailors from across Asia competing in 8 Olympic and 6 youth classes, which are

The 2017 event is set to see the continued campaign toward Asian Games 2018 and Olympic 2020 at Tokyo for most of the national sailing teams and development squads announced by most of the Asian nations.

'We are very excited about this year's event as we have a strong focus on ensuring that we attract the best sailors from Asia to Jakarta for the Asian Sailing Championship 2017. We are actively working with the top National teams and developing nations to assist with shipping logistics and charter options, to make it easier to come to Indonesia to do this top-class event’ said Dr Malav Shroff, President Asian Sailing Federation.

‘Jakarta hopes to provide first class racing as well as a full program on onshore activities and events', said Competition Manager, Iwan Ngantung.

Takao Otani, Technical Delegate said, 'Hosting the Asian Sailing Championship 2017 puts the international spotlight on Jakarta, Indonesia. On behalf of the Olympic Council of Asia, World Sailing and the Asian Sailing Federation, I would like to extend an invitation to sailors from across Asia to be a part of this championship.'

World Sailing's multi discipline Seminars intended to improve the standard of Race Officers, Judges and Measurers in Asia and to assist people who wish to become International Race Officers, International Judges and International Measurers are also planned to be held during 25 to 27 Nov 2017 at the venue. Detailed information and registration process will be posted on the event website which will be setup shortly

The Notice of Race will be released in the next two weeks.

The Asian Sailing Championship is supported by the Jakarta Asian Games Organising Committee as a part of the test of events that will be held in 2018.
