DR. MALAV SHROFF RE-ELECTED UNOPPOSED AS  ASAF PRESIDENT

Dr. Malav Shroff (IND) has been re-elected unopposed as President of the Asian Sailing Federation (ASAF).

Five OCA Asia Regional Vice Presidents were also elected unopposed following the conclusion of the 2026 election process.

Mr. Gordon Tang from Cambodia and Mr. Rashid Majed Al Sulaiti  from Qatar , announced as ASAF Honorary Presidents.

The Election results were formally announced by ASAF Secretary General – Mr. Jason Lim, at the Asian Sailing Federation AGM held today 4th October’26 at Nagoya, Japan in the presence of Chief Guest Deputy Director General Olympic Council of Asia, Mr. Vinod Kumar Tiwari and World Sailing Vice President – Mrs. Beatriz Gonzalez Luna.

Mr. Tiwari congratulated Dr. Malav Shroff on his re – election and all conveyed his best wishes to the newly appointed Executive Committee members.

He also outlined his vision of how the OCA aims to develop sports across the Asian Continent.

Subsequently a resolution was unanimously passed by the General Assembly for acceptance of the election results.

The nomination process for the ASAF Executive Committee Elections commenced on 20th August 2026 and closed on 4th September 2026.

Ernst & Young LLP was appointed as the Official Independent Tabulator for the Elections.

A total of 33 MNAs, out of a maximum of 35, submitted candidate nominations for the respective positions.

At the close of the nomination process, only one valid candidature had been received for the position of President and for each of the five OCA Asia Region Vice President positions: East Asia, South East Asia, South Asia, Central Asia and West Asia.

Accordingly, all six candidates were elected unopposed and, in accordance with the Election Rules, there was no further requirement to conduct an election.

The nomination results were subsequently circulated to the MNAs and declared final.

Two Honorary Presidents were also announced at the AGM. Mr. Gordon Tang Vice President, Olympic Council of Asia and President, Cambodia Sailing Federation and since the next Asian Games is being held in Qatar, Mr. Rashid Majed Al Sulaiti –    President Qatar Sailing & Rowing Federation was also elected as Honorary President.

Mr. Jason Lim, Secretary General, congratulated Dr. Malav Shroff on his re-election as ASAF President and wished him every success during his tenure. He also congratulated the five OCA Asia Region Vice Presidents and Honorary Presidents and wished them all, a successful tenure ahead.

Dr. Malav Shroff thanked all MNAs and partners for their support during the election process and outlined his vision for ASAF for the next 4 years, which focuses on:

  • Increasing participation and development
  • Raising the quality of our events
  • Supporting our athletes holistically
  • Making Sailing sustainable
  • Leveraging technological advancements
  • Ensuring good governance and financial security

The newly elected Executive Committee will serve a four-year term, until the 2030 AGM.

The members held extensive discussions on the Growth Strategy for Sailing in Asia which outlined five key pillars competitive sailing, grassroots development, sailing support, funding, and governance with valuable inputs received from all MNAs.

The AGM concluded successfully with the objective of working as One Asia!
