Election of Officers – Asian Sailing Federation

The Officers of the ASAF comprise of the ASAF President, four Vice-Presidents, the Treasurer and the Secretary General. The President and the Vice-Presidents are elected for period of four years. The last election of the Officers of the ASAF was held at Singapore in Jun 2012. To be elected as President, or Vice-President of ASAF, the candidate should be an Asian Citizen, and should have the endorsement and financial support of minimum of one of the Asian MNA and he / she should not be above the age of 70 years.

The President and four Vice-Presidents will be elected at the 2016 Extra Ordinary General Meeting at Abu Dhabi on 06 March 2016. In accordance with Article 16.1 at least one of the four Vice-Presidents must be a woman. In order to be eligible as a candidate for President or Vice-President, a candidate must be nominated by a MNA. MNAs may nominate as many or as few candidates as they wish. There is no requirement that the candidate is nominated by his own MNA.

An information letter regarding the nomination for the Election of Officers has been sent to all MNAs. The last date for receipt of nominations was 06 February 2016.

ELECTION COMMITTEE

The ASAF Executive has appointed the following Election Committee: Mr Jason Lim (SIN) – Chair, Mr Lukman Abu Bakar (MAS) and Captain Ajay Narang (IND).

The Election Committee shall:

  • determine whether or not a nominated candidate is eligible for election.
  • publish a list of eligible candidates nominated together with the names of their nominating MNAs for distribution with the agenda.
  • be responsible for the conduct of the election and the votes taken for the candidates during the EGOM.

WITHDRAWAL OF CANDIDATURE

Any candidate wishing to withdraw his candidature may write to the Chairman Election Committee in the prescibed form. This can be downloaded from here
