ASAF Asian Championship 2016 at Abu Dhabi acts as an Olympic qualification regatta for sailors from Asia. Abu Dhabi is the last chance for sailors from Asia to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Sailing Competition on merit.
Their first opportunity came at the Santander 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships where 50% of the total spots were taken followed by the 2015 class world championships where another chunk of places were available.
For the Laser and Laser Radial fleets, two places are available for Asian sailors.
Two spots in the Men's RS:X are available in Abu Dhabi with the remaining RS:X Women, 49er and 49erFX fleets fighting for one place.

Laser Standard
Bahrain, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Thailand and UAE.
Laser Radial
Indonesia, India, Kazakhstan, S Korea, Malaysia and Thailand.
RS:X Men
Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Oman, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Chinese Taipei.
RS:X Women
Hong Kong, S Korea, Singapore and Thailand.
49er
India, Japan, S Korea, Oman and Thailand
49erFX
India, Japan and Malaysia
