FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
30 September 2026
Finally, Here Comes the Sun
The day began with another wait ashore for the wind to fill in. Blue skies returned for the first time in days, and a light breeze began to build, sending the eager sailors out to their respective race areas.
Highlights
- Following yesterday’s cancellation, the Girls’ Dinghy (ILCA4) got underway, with the UAE taking the lead.
- Windsurfing made its long-awaited debut on Day 4 after three days of insufficient breeze.
Racing Overview
At 12:40 pm, the Boys’ and Girls’ Dinghy (ILCA4), Men’s and Women’s Dinghy (ILCA 7 and ILCA 6), and Men’s and Women’s Skiff (49ER and 49ERFX) fleets headed to their racing areas. Racing began shortly after 1:30 pm in a southwesterly to west-southwesterly breeze of 5–6 knots.
The Men’s and Women’s Windsurfing (IQFOIL) fleets launched later for slalom racing, followed by the Boys’ and Girls’ Skiff (29er) fleets. Women’s Windsurfing tried to start after the men’s, but wind faded, so racing was abandoned.
The Boys’ and Girls’ Windsurfing (IQFOILY) fleets remained ashore, with AP over A displayed at 3:45 pm.
The Mixed Dinghy (470) and Youth Mixed Dinghy (420) fleets did not race today, while the other classes aimed to catch up on races lost earlier in the schedule.
