A forecast of delayed wind opened the second day of the ASAF Youth Sailing Cup finals at Abu Dhabi. Postponements ashore saw teams relaxing around the venue in this very beautiful location at Abu Dhabi Sailing and Yacht Club. Patience from the Race Committee and teams, as everyone waited for the breeze to set in, which eventually delivered around 1445 hours. Racing got underway in the late afternoon in an 6-7 knot breeze, increasing to 8-9 knots as the races progressed.
There were a number a of standout performances across the classes, Mohammed AbdelKrim Al Hammadi (UAE) posted one race wins and a second, in the Laser 4.7 (M) class and his racing winning form jumped him up to the top of the results list.
A second and first place finish confirms Saif Ibrahim Ali Al Marzooqi (UAE) lead at the front of the Laser Radial (M) fleet. He is confident heading into the rest of the week even as the pressure builds towards the business end of the week. Eissa Sultan Jumaa Al Marzooqi (UAE) sit in second, Somaskandan Sivakumar (IND) round off the podium in third.
The performance of the day came from Jasmine Scholer (HKG), winning both races in the Optimist (Girls). Chasing on her heels are Nicolce Scholer (HKG) and Emily Wong (HKG) in second and third respectively. Thulsi Mouva (IND) moved into the lead in the Optimist Green fleet after two wins in both the races today.
Saif Saeed Al Mansoori (UAE) has a 6 point lead at the front of the Optimist (M) fleet, winning the final race of the day. Abdulaziz Abdulla Al Hammadi (UAE) and Mohamed Abdulla Al Hammadi (UAE) are second and third overall.
