Another light start to the day, with 2 knots the only breeze sniffing around the race track at the scheduled start time of 1230 hours. Everyone waited for the sea breeze to set in, which eventually delivered around 1445 hours. Racing got underway in the late afternoon in a 5-6 knot breeze, increasing to 10-11 knots as the day progressed.
Again the weather and race track made sure there was no margin for errors, though the overnight leaders maintained their edge but saw their lead diminish considerably. The stage is now set for an upset in the podium positions as the fleet prepares for their final battle of the series tomorrow, where higher winds are predicted.
An upgrade from tenth going into the day to fourth at the end for Preston Tso (HKG) after a second, first and second place results today.
“It was a long day with a lot of waiting, so you knew in the end there was going to be a race, so you had to be on it, and ready to go. I feel confident with my speed and feel confident with my sailing, and I enjoy it here,” said Preston Tso (HKG) “It’s challenging, but I think with more wind tomorrow I will have the advantage.”
Climbs for some, drops for others, including Malik Hood (HKG), who gained one place after Somaskandan Sivakumar (IND) had three poor races today.
“It is tough here and hot and I have to stay focused all the time,” Sivakumar said referring to the light wind conditions that tests the minds of all teams. “I didn’t think we would race today, so I was pretty happy when the wind came through. The Race Committee did a really good job and congratulations to them – it was good. I didn’t do well today, but with more wind predicted tomorrow I am fully charged up”
Three races are scheduled for all classes tomorrow, with the first race of the day scheduled at 1000 hours.
