Asian Sailing Federation AGM 2023, Pattaya Thailand

The Annual General Meeting of the Asian Sailing Federation concluded successfully yesterday, the 11th of December’23.

ASAF was honoured to have the presence of distinguished guests for the AGM.

IOC Member and OCA Vice President Madam Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul,  President World Sailing – Mr. Quanhai Li, President EUROSAF – Mr. Joesep Pla, President of Honor ASAF – Ms. Zhang Xiaodong and Vice President YRAT Admiral Thanee Phudpad

ASAF President Dr. Malav Shroff in his address did a recap of the year gone by and the roadmap ahead for ASAF which included the need for Grass Root Sailing Development and providing encouragement to more youth and women to take up the Sport and also focus on Parasailing.

Training and Development of more Asian Officials was also another key focus area he mentioned.

Dr. Malav also announced the selection of two ASAF High Performance Centres which were chosen on the basis of an extensive application process which was reviewed and approved by the ASAF Executive Committee.

These 2 centres are the MUSANAA SAILING SCHOOL – OMAN and the ZHEJIANG OCEAN SPORTS CENTRE (ASIAN SAILING CENTRE) – CHINA

Madam Patama joined the meeting virtually and conveyed her best wishes for the ASAF AGM and the Asian Continental Olympic Qualifier event.

Mr Quanhai Li mentioned on the close relationship that World Sailing had with the Continental Federation and about communication being the key focus area.

Outgoing President of Honor Ms. Zhang Xiaodong also conveyed her best wishes and highlighted the conduct of a successful Asian Games event.

As per tradition the next President of Honor would be from the host country of the next Asian Games and Mr. Masuhiro Bamba from Japan has kindly consented to take up this esteemed position.

Mr. Josep Pla gave his presentation on the Race Officials Exchange Program of EUROSAF and its history. An exchange program has been planned between EUROSAF and ASAF.

The ASAF Committee Chairs gave their reports on the activities being done in their respective groups and the future plans.

Presentations from ASAF Sponsors Element 6 and RS Sailing followed, which gave a comprehensive view to all delegates of the work that they have been doing.

Uzbekistan was also ratified as a Provisional member of ASAF.

The meeting concluded with Dr. Malav Shroff proposing the Vote of Thanks.
