Race resumes in 6 events after a windless day

The breeze began to build this afternoon, allowing six events to complete several races each, after all races had been postponed yesterday due to a lack of wind.

Highlights

Rain and light winds of around 8 knots tested the ILCA fleets, with several nations challenging at the front. China made a strong start in the Olympic qualifying events, while Hong Kong, China sailed consistently in the women’s fleet. Some frontrunners returning from the World Championships took time to settle.

Today’s conditions

Rain came and went throughout the morning, while light winds forced the scheduled 11:00 am start to be postponed. It was the third consecutive morning with little or no wind, raising concerns that racing might not be possible. However, a southwesterly breeze filled in after midday and settled at around 8 knots, allowing racing to begin.

Once the D flag was hoisted, the Mixed Dinghy, Youth Mixed Dinghy, Men’s Dinghy and Women’s Dinghy fleets headed to the racing area, followed shortly afterwards by the Men’s and Women’s Skiff fleets. Racing for the Boys’ and Girls’ Skiff and Boys’ and Girls’ Dinghy events was cancelled for the day and postponed until tomorrow.

Men’s Dinghy (ILCA7)

China posted consistent 1-2 finishes to lead, ahead of World Championship top-10 finishers Singapore and Hong Kong, China.

Women’s Dinghy (ILCA6)

Hong Kong, China and Thailand are tied after racing in 6-8 knots, with Paris 2024 campaigners battling at the front.

Youth Mixed Dinghy (420)

The 420, the only youth class to race today, completed three races in around 8 knots.

Men’s Skiff (49ER)

Oman won Race 1 before China took Race 2. China leads with 4-1 finishes.

Women’s Skiff (49ERFX)

China crossed first in Race 2 but received a UFD. Hong Kong, China won both races to take the lead.

Mixed Dinghy (470)
